Danny Lasoski Collects Winter Nationals Win at Ocala Speedway

(01/29/10) It was the opening event for the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions Winter Nationals, so there was a bit of chill in the air but not enough to cool down the young guns and veteran drivers. On a night that looked as if the youth would out run experience, there was a cruel twist which sent a seasoned veteran to Victory Lane. The benefactor was Danny Lasoski who did not lead the most laps in the event, but he led the most important one that solidified his twenty-first O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions victory in Winter Nationals History.

Danny Lasoski Looks to Contend Again in 2010 with Parsons Motorsports
Posted Tuesday, Jan 26, 2010

Concord, NC — Returning to the road full-time last year with the World of Outlaws, Danny Lasoski turned in a very solid performance in his first year driving for longtime car owner Lonnie Parsons and the Parsons Motorsports team. Lasoski helped the team record their most ever wins in a season. He also helped them finish the highest they ever had in the World of Outlaws championship standings, with a sixth-place effort.

The 2001 series champion looks to use that momentum in 2010 to be a contender night in and night out beginning with the 39th Annual Florida DIRTcar Nationals by the University of Northwestern Ohio at Volusia Speedway Park, February 5-7.

“We are very excited to get going.” said Lasoski. “We put our seats in the Casey’s General Store cars last weekend. Barry Jackson, Cody (Jacobs) and Pete (Stephens) have done a great job. We have five race cars sitting there ready to go. Paul Kistler has done an awesome job with our engine program. Lonnie Parsons and Don Lamberti are committed to putting a championship winning team together and we’re really excited to get the year started. Hopefully we can leave Florida on a strong note and not dig ourselves a hole like last year.”

Lasoski has turned countless laps at Volsuia Speedway Park over the years in the DIRTcar Nationals and has won a total of 17 times at the half-mile. He was victorious for the first time with the World of Outlaws at the track in the finale of the three-day lid lifter in 2008. He has six Top-10 finishes with the series at Volusia.

“You have to do your homework over the winter, which I think we have,” shared the 2001 World of Outlaws champion when asked what it takes to start strong in Florida. “You also have to have a great engine program. With the air as good as it is down there, it’s hard on engines and we have a hard hitting Kistler engine. We are really looking forward to it and we have had some good runs down there, so hopefully that luck will continue.”

With one of the strongest fields in the history of the DIRTcar Nationals expected for the opener this year, Lasoski knows that he and his team will have to be at the top of their game. He is looking forward to the heightened level of competition at the half-mile with drivers from across the country converging on Volusia. With a practice set at Volusia on February 2, as well as a couple of races under the All Star Circuit of Champions banner on February 3-4, drivers will have a few changes to get up to speed before the World of Outlaws season kicks into high gear on February 5.

“You show up at the very first race of the year and you have the best of the best there,” he noted. “Everyone is itching to race and you’ll see how you stack up and if you did your homework over the winter and what kind of team you have.”

Lasoski will have Barry Jackson of JEI Chassis turning the wrenches for him again in 2010. The pair teamed up for the first time last year and won five times together on the World of Outlaws trail and were one of just four drivers that won at least five races. Pete Stephens and Cody Jacobs will also return as crew members, giving Lasoski the exact same crew he had during the second half of the 2009 campaign.

“He is a huge part of the team,” shared the native of Dover, Missouri when asked about Jackson. “He is a fantastic organizer and has really taken the Casey’s General Store team to a new level. Last year was the very first year that Barry had ever been on the road for a full, complete year, and he learned a lot. Our team with Pete (Stephens) and Cody (Jacobs) have gelled really well. I feel we have everything it takes to put a successful year together.”

Circled on the calendar for Lasoski is a June 16 stop in his home state of Missouri at State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, a track he has won at eight times including twice with the World of Outlaws. He has finished among the Top-10 at the track in 25 of his 27 career starts at the half-mile. The native of Dover, Missouri will also get to compete at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City for the first time since 2003 on June 26. He has four career wins at that half-mile including a couple with the former World of Outlaws Gumout Series. Lasoski has finished in the Top-10 in 19 of his 20 career starts at Lakeside Speedway.

“We’re really excited about going back to Sedalia,” Lasoski said. “That’s home for us. Tony Ross and I are bringing back the Michael Ross Memorial Foundation Golf Tournament the Tuesday prior to the Sedalia race. I’m very excited to that and just the whole year. There are a couple of new places we are going to as well and I am very excited.”

With another of the strongest fields in World of Outlaws history currently being assembled for the 2010 campaign, Lasoski looks for the level of competition to continue to rise as it has for the last several years on the road. He enters the season with 86 career A-Feature wins on the tour, which is sixth-best all-time.

“The teams we have out there, all of them can win on any given night,” he said. “Back in the day, you used to have three or four that were capable of winning and now you have 15 or 16. With the local guys, that puts on a great show.”

Lasoski’s sixth-place finish in points last season marked the 11th time in his storied career that he has finished sixth or better in the final standings with the World of Outlaws. He is one of just seven drivers that has claimed a World of Outlaws title in the 30-plus year history of the year. Just four drivers have ever won multiple series titles and Lasoski looks to join that elite list in 2010 as he chases his second title.

“You have to have a good team, which Parsons Motorsports is and you also have to have luck on your side,” he shared when asked what it takes to contend for a championship. “The driver has to do his job and if all of those ingredients work, you’ll be successful.”
